Because it was the original home of the US Grand Prix, Watkins Glen International Raceway, bills itself as the “Soul of American Road Racing”.  Car & Driver magazine recently included it among the top five tracks in the United States (Road Atlanta, VIR, Road America and Laguna Seca being the others).  Over the Sept 17-19 weekend, BK Racing journeyed to the Finger Lakes region of New York to find out why.

Short story – WOW!!!!

And now for those of you that prefer just a bit more detail:

Butch Kummer2010 was Alabama and Atlanta Regions’ third year of co-sanctioning the Labor Day Double SARRC at Barber Motorsports Park and the event just keeps on getting better.  The overall attendance continues to climb, we’ve worked out a lot of the operational procedures with both the track and Alabama Region, and there’s an excellent chance we’ll host the weekend again in 2011.  And even though the track is STILL not among my favorites I found it more attractive than the last time I ran there in 2007.

Short story – second (of five) in GTA and ninth overall on Saturday, first in GTA (fourth overall) and our best laps ever on Sunday, and we extended our lead in the 2010 SARRC GTA points battle.  We also loaded a running race car in the trailer at the end of the weekend which means we have a minimum amount of prep work to be ready for Watkins Glen the weekend of Sept 17-19.  Despite all those successes, however, the major theme of this story can best be summarized as “New Beginnings”.

And, as always, here’s the longer story:

There’s a lot to tell about our Atlanta Region Double SARRC / Pro-IT / PDX event the weekend of July 16-18 at Road Atlanta, but the overriding theme of the weekend is:

“We are the victim of our own success.”

Short story – out of twelve GTA cars we qualified third for Saturday’s race but finished eighth, then on Sunday we broke during qualifying and didn’t run the race.  It acts like it’s the clutch or maybe a broken input shaft, but we won’t know for sure until we get it apart.  From an organizational standpoint (as Competition Director for Atlanta Region and Associate Pastor of the First Church of GTA), the weekend was a rousing success.

And, as always, here’s the longer story:

The July 2-4 Double SARRC / Double ECR weekend at Roebling Road wasn’t originally part of BK Racing’s 2010 plans, but after getting a first & second at Nashville SuperSpeedway over Father’s Day weekend we decided to see if we could pick up some more SARRC points.  We had also done some major suspension changes to Cuervo after the wreck at VIR in May, so this would give us another opportunity to sort some of that stuff out.

Short story – first in GTA and third overall on both days, we’re now leading in the 2010 SARRC GTA points chase, and we loaded a running race car in the trailer at the end of the weekend.  Life is good!

And, as always, here’s the longer story:

2010 marked our fifth year of running road races at the Nashville SuperSpeedway, plus it was the Third Annual Heart of Dixie event co-hosted by the Tennessee Valley and Chattanooga SCCA Regions.  Once again those folks reminded us what Southern Hospitality is all about.  Attendance was up somewhat over 2009, so hopefully it will continue to grow in the future.

Short story – first in GTA and first overall on Saturday after a great race with Bobby Reuse, second in GTA and third overall after an equally great race with Bobby.  We also loaded a running race car in the trailer at the end of the weekend, and that’s always a good thing.

And, as always, here’s the longer story:  (more…)

I’m sorry to be so late getting this out, but I was waiting for the video of the weekend to see if maybe it was all a bad dream and I didn’t REALLY cause the wreck on the last lap of the May 8 SARRC/MARRS race at VIR.  Alas, it really did happen and I really did screw up badly.  I also need to officially apologize to Larry Pulliam for giving him a hard time about repeatedly looping Cuervo at Little Talladega last month – ends up there WAS something wrong with the car!!!

Short story – Running second in GTA during Saturday’s race, then made a mistake (on the last lap) and took out both myself and a competitor’s car.  NOT my best weekend ever at a race track.

For those that want the “Reporter’s version” of the weekend, here’s a race report I posted on the V8SC site: http://v8stockcar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1520&p=3831#p3831.

And for those who have nothing better to do for the next fifteen minutes, here’s the longer story with “personalized facts” (my brothers will tell you what that means <g>):

Late last year Atlanta RE Tere Pulliam contracted with BK Racing to provide three 2010 Track Trial events as a Christmas present to her husband Larry.  The April 17-18 weekend at Talladega Grand Prix Raceway (aka – “Little Talladega”) was the first of those events.

Short story:

Fifth overall of 53 cars, best run of a 1:04.954, first in GTA and a new track record.  On the down side, Larry actually saw the checkered flag on only two of his six sessions in the car. <g>

And now the longer story:
